Workshops and exhibition with children at Eastbury Primary School in Barking and the Irena Sendler Children’s Festival

A 3-day series of workshops with 120 children and 5 teachers focusing on Sendler’s activities and impact. This was a pilot project in conjunction with Barking Council and was assessed to plan Learning from the Righteous’ future activities in the borough. Work produced by the children was presented at the Irena Sendler Children’s Festival on 10th June in the nearby Eastbury Manor House. This was a family day of artistic activities with a range of work-stations the children could take part in. This brought together children from the local community and children from the local Polish Saturday School, who performed traditional Polish dance and songs. All activities were linked to the Sendler story and, with the support of the Polish Embassy, each child was presented a gift of a Janusz Korczak book after LftR’s Chief Educational Consultant spoke about his connection with Irena Sendler. The event was also attended by survivor Lili Pohlmann, a friend of Sendler, who spoke to the children about her work and presented the books
